We're deep into the summer, which means some NHL players are using their time off to tie the knot. And former Toronto Maple Leafs forward Pierre Engvall is no exception.
The New York Islanders skater married Matilda Von Sicard on Saturday, just one year after they revealed their Instagram engagement last year.
Many of Engvall's teammates attended the ceremony including former Maple Leafs Rasmus Sandin and Carl Dahlstrom to name a couple and current Maple Leafs defenseman Timothy Liljegren as seen in an Instagram post from Olympic alpine skier Lisa Hornblad, who is Sandin's partner (thanks @mmirandyy for pointing us in the right direction)
Engvall spent his first eight years in the Maple Leafs organization when the club selected him with their seventh-round pick (188th overall) in the 2014 NHL Draft. He played for the Marlies before recording 42 goals and 41 assists in 226 games over four seasons with the Maple Leafs.
In February of 2023, the Leafs Engvall to the Islanders and he went on to sign a seven-year contract extension worth $21 million later that summer.
Engvall's teammates have additional reasons to celebrate this summer. Both Liljegren and Sandin signed contract extensions with their respective teams that came with big pay raises.
On Mar 6, Sandin signed a five-year contract extension with the Washington Capitals worth $23 million, while Liljegren signed a two-year, $6 million extension to remain with the Leafs.
Former Maple Leafs defenseman Carl Dahlstrom was also in attendance for the wedding. The Swedish defenseman played in three games with the Leafs during the 2021-22 season and was poised to be another depth option for the club before a major shoulder injury put him out for most of the 2022-23 season. He did get into eight games with the Marlies that season. Dahlstrom (who also goes by Calle Dahlstrom) spent 2023-24 with Farjestad of the Swedish Hockey League but recently signed a two-year deal with HC Lugano of the Swiss league.
