Dubas Joins Hockey Canada Management Group one year after first working with them at the 2024 IIHF World Hockey Championship.
Penguins President Kyle Dubas has joined Hockey Canada's management staff for the country's two biggest best-on-best tournaments.
The former Toronto Maple Leafs GM was named as the director of player personnel for Canada at the 4 Nations Face-Off this upcoming February and the 2026 Winter Olympics.
Dubas and Tampa Bay Lightning GM Julien BriseBois were announced as additions to Hockey Canada's management staff for the tournament, which will see the NHL pause their schedule for eight days as Canada, Finland, Sweden and the United States each take part in a best-on-best tournament between Feb. 12-20 to be held in Boston and Montreal. Both were named by Hockey Canada on Tuesday where they will join Don Sweeney, who is GM of the 4 Nations Team while Doug Armstrong is GM of Hockey Canada's Olympic entry.
“Julien and Kyle are accomplished NHL general managers, and I am excited to welcome them to our management group for both the 4 Nations Face-Off and Olympics, as I believe they will be strong assets to a well-rounded management team,” Armstrong said in a statement to Hockey Canada. “Both Julien and Kyle have enjoyed long and successful careers, and we believe their experience and knowledge of NHL players will be a great addition to our staff as we continue to evaluate Canadian players and build rosters for international competition.”
It's not the first time Dubas was named to the management staff for Hockey Canada, He served as an associate GM of the 2024 Canadian team at the IIHF World Hockey Championship.
Dubas is entering his second season as President and GM of the Pittsburgh Penguins after he served five seasons as GM of the Maple Leafs. In May of 2023, Maple Leafs president Brendan Shanahan elected not to retain Dubas when his contract expired.
Hockey Canada pointed to Dubas' track record as becoming the second-youngest GM in NHL history, his years of experience including a Calder Cup championship with the AHL's Toronto Marlies in 2018 and his time as GM of the OHL's Sault Ste. Marie Greyhounds as credentials for the appointment.
