Kampf is entering the second year of a four-year, $9.6 million contract he signed in the summer of 2023.
It’s safe to say Toronto Maple Leafs forward David Kampf is in extraordinary shape – no surprise there.
In his latest Instagram story on Tuesday, Kampf appears to be lounging in the Austrian waters, soaking up the beautiful landscape while cooling off in a ravine.
Though it’s unclear whether the water is cold, his facial expressions suggest it might be. After all, ‘cold tubs’ are an excellent recovery method many professional athletes incorporate into their workout routines. The Czechia native’s dedication to maintaining peak physical condition has never been more evident. The serene backdrop and purity of it make for the perfect setting for his off-season training regimen.
It’s certainly a testament to the work he’s been putting in behind the scenes.
In the story posted on Tuesday, Kampf's well-defined muscles can be seen, showcasing his methodical training and disciplined lifestyle – which doesn’t include “cheat days”. In a video posted in November of 2022, Kampf’s dedication to fitness was shown on full display when he claimed, “I don’t eat cheat meals, not for me.”
Following the 2023-24 season, and the Men’s World Hockey Championship, Kampf was seen doing reps of a body row exercise, likely as a part of an entire workout, working to keep his title as the fittest on the team throughout the offseason.
After a 2022-23 season that saw Kampf score career highs in goals (7), assists (20), and points (27), general manager Brad Treliving re-signed Kampf to a four-year, $9.6 million contract with a cap hit of $2.4 million a season in June 2023. In the 2023-24 campaign, Kampf scored eight goals and 11 assists for 19 points before tacking on an additional assist in seven postseason games.
He also participated in the Men’s World Hockey Championship, which cemented further optimism for Leafs fans as he helped secure Czechia’s first gold medal since 2010 with two goals, five assists, and a team-leading +9 rating in the tournament.
Kampf, who primarily centers the fourth line, is a defensively reliable player and valued penalty killer for the club but could find himself on the outside looking in due to the team’s cap constraints.
The team has yet to significantly address the offensive side of the puck and may need to move out some roster players to create additional cap space, though it remains to be seen if Treliving and Co. will do so. Kampf, with his $2.4 million cap hit, has been posed as a plausible option.
Regardless, the 29-year-old has been doing his part to prepare for the 2024-25 season, starting immediately after he exited the ice for the final time in June. He appears determined to be in the best shape when training camp rolls around, poised for a motivating season.
Seriously, does this guy have an offseason?
