The Toronto Maple Leafs have assigned defenseman Philippe Myers to an AHL conditioning loan, the club announced on Saturday.
Myers made the Maple Leafs roster out of training camp, however the 6-foot-5 defender has been limited to just one game due to the club’s depth at the position.
With 6-foot-7 defender Jami Hakanpaa recently activated from long-term injured reserve, Myers was pushed further down the depth chart.
Myers made his Leafs debut on Oct. 26, where he logged 12:11 in ice time in a 4-3 overtime loss to the Boston Bruins.
For an AHL conditioning loan, a player must agree to be sent down. The Marlies are hosting the Belleville Senators at Scotiabank Arena on Saturday afternoon so Myers did not have to travel very far.
Myers will remain on the club’s 23-man active roster as per the rules of the loan.
The Leafs signed Myers to a one-year deal worth $775,000 on July 2.
