The Toronto Maple Leafs have sent Fraser Minten back to the AHL after an 11-game stint in the NHL.
The 20-year-old forward scored four points (two goals, two assists) and averaged 12:47 of ice time with the Maple Leafs this season. Minten was called up to the NHL on Nov. 19, after Toronto placed David Kampf on injured reserve with a lower-body injury.
The following day, the Maple Leafs placed the forward on long-term injured reserve and called up Nikita Grebenkin. Both he and Minten are now back in the AHL with the Marlies.
Maple Leafs head coach Craig Berube said Kampf was "probably a little bit a ways away yet," on Thursday after the forward participated in the team's morning skate that day.
Kampf is eligible to return at any time given he's passed the required 10 games and 24 days out of Toronto's lineup. Toronto's roster sits at 22 out of 23 players, meaning the Maple Leafs won't have to move any more players out to make room for one of Kampf, Jani Hakanpaa, or Anthony Stolarz.
Toronto practices at Ford Performance Centre on Tuesday morning, and we'll likely get more clarity on the situation then. Stolarz was placed on injured reserve with a lower-body injury on Dec. 15, retroactive to Dec. 12.
He's not eligible to return until after Wednesday's matchup against the Dallas Stars.
"We'll get an update on that in a couple of days on that, alright?" Berube said when asked about the goaltender's status on Sunday. "I'm not really going to comment on that right now."
Hakanpaa hasn't been seen skating since being placed on injured reserve. Berube revealed on Dec. 5 that the defenseman underwent a procedure on his knee and wouldn't be on the ice for the next "few days".
Minten was returned to the Marlies three days before the NHL holiday roster freeze, beginning on Dec. 20 and ending on Dec. 28.
