The Toronto Maple Leafs were down 2-0 when they scored three unanswered goals to take a 3-2 lead against the Montreal Canadiens on Wednesday.
The latest of those goals came on the power play when William Nylander buried a pass from new teammate John Klingberg.
Following the goal, Nylander was caught on the broadcast giving a wink.
"Yeah, that was to me," Klingberg said with a laugh.
Klingberg has been quarterbacking the team's first power play unit after joining the Maple Leafs on a one-year, $4.15 million contract signed in July.
Both Klingberg and Nylander have been teammate at the World Hockey Championships before, so it's not a surprise there has been some chemistry early on.
But what prompted Nylander to deliver a wink to his teammate?
"I have no clue where that came from, to be honest," Nylander said before his team takes on the Minnesota Wild on Saturday. "Somebody showed me that after the game and I was like ‘I don’t know what that was'".
Despite a lack of pre-season games due to injury, Klingberg showed really well in Toronto's 6-5 shootout win against Montreal.
With a top power-play unit clicking like that, there are probably more winks to come, whether they go unexplained to not.
