Report: Former Maple Leafs Defenseman Luke Schenn to Sign Three-Year Deal With Predators

Schenn gets term after talks with the Maple Leafs broke down.

Shane Doan becomes an assistant to Toronto Maple Leafs general manager Brad Treliving as the club shores up its deep ties to Arizona. Will that be enough to extend Auston Matthews?

Luke Schenn is on his way to the Nashville Predators.

According to DailyFaceoff.com's Frank Seravalli, the physical defenseman is signing a three-year deal worth $2.75 million per season.

Earlier on Saturday, it was reported that Schenn would test the market after talks with the Maple Leafs broke down.

Schenn joined the Maple Leafs in February after the club acquired him from the Vancouver Canucks in exchange for a third-round draft pick.

Originally expected to be a bottom-pair or seventh defensive option, Schenn quickly rose up the depth chart and found himself consistently playing top-four minutes alongside Morgan Rielly during the 2023 Stanley Cup playoffs. During the first round of the playoffs, Schenn was on the ice for seven goals and just one goal against at even strength. In their second round against the Florida Panthers, Schenn was on the ice for three goals and just one against at even strength, despite losing in five games.

Last month, Rick Dhaliwal reported that the Leafs and Schenn were not close and that the defenseman was looking for term and trade protection.

The Predators have been in sell mode over the last few months and had a lot of cap space to make the kind the kind of offer Schenn was looking for.
