After a couple of months of negotiations, two of Toronto's veterans will hit the open market once free agency begins on Saturday.

The Maple Leafs are reportedly going in a different direction regarding two of their veteran players.

Pending unrestricted free agents Luke Schenn and Ryan O'Reilly will be fielding offers from other teams once the clock strikes noon on Saturday.

According to TSN hockey insider Chris Johnston, there was "mutual interest" in a reunion between both Schenn and the Maple Leafs. Still, the level of interest elsewhere looks to be more lucrative for the 33-year-old defenceman.

Schenn played a key role for Toronto during this year's playoffs, spending plenty of time alongside defenceman Morgan Rielly.

O'Reilly, who was also due for a new contract, will be hitting the open market when free agency begins at noon.

According to TSN hockey insider Pierre LeBrun, the Maple Leafs had an interest in O'Reilly right up until the end but the 32-year-old centre decided to become an unrestricted free agent.

O'Reilly was acquired by Toronto back in February from the St. Louis Blues to help with their centre depth. In the playoffs for the Maple Leafs, the 32-year-old had three goals and nine assists in 11 games.

He was pivotal at center for Toronto, and now the Maple Leafs will need to look elsewhere to add depth down the middle.
