The former Maple Leafs GM declined to give his side of the story following President Brendan Shanahan's detailed account of Dubas' dismissal following "reasonable and consistent but private discussions.

The Toronto Maple Leafs goaltender had a tough time at practice on Saturday, breaking a stick earlier and then taking his other one and nearly breaking it over the crossbar after allowing a goal.

Four days after the Toronto Maple Leafs dismissed Kyle Dubas as general manager of the club, the 37-year-old released a statement through his Twitter account.

On Friday, the club announced they would not be renewing Dubas as general manager of the club when his contract expires on June 30. Maple Leafs president Brendan Shanahan held a news conference hours after the announcement and provided a detailed account dating back to last summer regarding how negotiations between himself and Dubas went.

There has been significant interest in Dubas' account of the situation but in his statement elected to keep those details to himself.

"While I understand there is interest surrounding the circumstances of my departure, I will not get into the specifics of what I consider to be reasonable and consistent but private discussions," Dubas said. "In the days that I felt I needed to assess and evaluate my own view to the future, both with respect to the necessary direction of the Club and ensuring that I had the full support of my family for what I knew would be required in the off-season and years to follow, the organization, as is their right to do, decided to go in a different direction."

Dubas mentioned that his family doubled in size and thanked everyone in the organization, a nod to the family circumstances he cited in the end-of-season news conference he held eight days ago.

In that same news conference, the Sault Ste. Marie, Ontario native mentioned that he didn't expect to see himself with a new organization and that it would either be the Maple Leafs or nowhere for next season. However, the Pittsburgh Penguins have been granted permission to talk to Dubas about their front-office openings and the account of events can be interpreted differently, given Shanahan mentioned that Dubas did want to come back to the Maple Leafs as recently as Thursday.
