The defenseman, who was on a two-way deal with the Carolina Hurricanes last season, didn't play a single game at the NHL level.
The Toronto Maple Leafs have added some depth to their defense.
According to TSN's Darren Dreger, the Maple Leafs have signed William Laggeson.
The Swedish defenseman spent all of last season with the Chicago Wolves of the American Hockey League where he scored 10 goals and 22 assists in 65 games.
At 6-foot-2 and 207 pounds, Laggeson could be a depth piece up with the Leafs but will likely be with the Toronto Marlies. Laggeson was on a two-way contract last season that paid him the minimum NHL salary and $225,000 at the AHL level.
He's played 60 NHL games spread over three seasons and has seven assists.
