Although there were reports of the Toronto Maple Leafs interest in Tyler Myers, that appears to be off the table.
Sportsnet’s Elliotte Friedman was a guest on Donnie and Dhali on CHEK TV and refuted any reports of Toronto's interest in Vancouver Canucks defenseman Tyler Myers.
"That is not happening, earlier in season there was Myers talk, not now," Friedman said. "Toronto is looking for a forward, not defenseman."
Interest in Myers earlier in the season is consistent with Maple Leafs GM Kyle Dubas' message to media last week when he confirmed that initially, he was looking to replace a void left by Jake Muzzin, who hasn't played since Oct. 17 with a cervical spine issue.
Since that time, the Leafs have seen over 350 man-games lost, most of them due to several key defensemen out of the lineup. Dubas applauded the way his defense has stepped in and indicated that his search for a direct replacement for Muzzin wasn't a priority.
Myers is signed through the 2023-24 season and carries a salary cap hit of $6 million. He has a goal and nine assists in 51 games with the Canucks this season.
