The Czech defensive forward is returning on a four-year deal worth $2.4 million per season.

Toronto Maple Leafs GM Brad Treliving has made his first player signing and scratched a pending unrestricted free agent off the board.

According to multiple reports, David Kampf is returning to the Maple Leafs on a four-year deal.

TSN's Chris Johnston reports Kampf's deal will carry a salary cap hit of $2.4 million.

According to PuckPedia.com, $5.325 million of Kampf's deal will be paid out in signing bonuses.

TSN's Darren Dreger reported on Tuesday that the Leafs were circling back to Kampf on an extension.

The 28-year-old first joined the Maple Leafs in 2021 when he signed a two-year contract worth $1.5 million per season. He quickly became one of Toronto's top penalty killers, usually playing alongside Mitch Marner on the team's top unit.

A reliable defensive forward, Kampf scored seven goals and added 20 assists in 82 games. He was set to become an unrestricted free agent on July 1.

For a modest increase of $1 million, the Leafs get a reliable defensive forward and Kampf gets some stability with the term of the deal.
