Utah goalie Connor Ingram took a puck to the mask, prompting his exit from the game.
Midway through the first period, Connor Ingram was hit right in the mask from a shot from Capitals' Alex Ovechkin.
Seconds later, after Washington's Pierre-Luc Dubois scored a rebound goal to cut the lead to 3-2 midway through the first, Ingram was visibly shaken from Ovechkin's shot, removing his mask and receiving medical attention.
Ingram was able to skate off the ice under his own power but did not return, with Karel Vejmelka coming in to replace him.
It has been reported that Ingram is unlikely to return to the game due to an upper-body injury. How serious the injury remains to be seen.
Until then, Utah will rely on Vejmelka to play in relief of Ingram on such short notice.
Earlier in the first period, Ingram earned his second consecutive assist on Utah's first goal on a Josh Doan wrist shot at 1:10 into the game.
It's only his second assist of the season and the fifth of his career.
Along with that, Ingram had 9 saves on the day and .818 save percentage.
