The Utah Mammoth are hoping to sign their young forward Logan Cooley to a long-term contract extension.

Cooley, 21, is now eligible for an extension and is entering the final year of his entry-level contract. The hope is that they can lock him up either before the season starts or during it to avoid him becoming an RFA on the open market.

Utah's president of hockey operations Chris Armstrong spoke on the team's urgency to get Cooley signed long-term on Thursday.

“He’s one of the most dynamic young players in the NHL, certainly one we think is a future star in this league and we want him to be a star for the Utah Mammoth."

“We’ve had great conversations with his representatives, we’ll continue that dialogue through the rest of the summer and hope that we can get something done ahead of the season."

Cooley is entering what could be the first year of his prime this season, where he will likely play alongside Clayton Keller and newly acquired J.J. Peterka. Last season, he had 25 goals and 40 assists for 65 points in 75 games.

Cooley went overseas earlier this summer to play for Team USA in the 2025 World Championships, where he and the Americans won gold at that tournament for the first time in 92 years.
