© Rob Gray-Imagn ImagesTo say it has been a busy night in Utah would be an understatement. The Utah Hockey Club front office has been active with a trio of signings.
After reaching an extension with both Alex Kerfoot and Ian Cole on a one-year deal, they announced the extension of goaltender Karel Vejmelka to a five-year deal worth $23.75 million. The contract carries an AAV of $4.75 million per season, which is an absolute steal of a contract.
Vejmelka has been very good this season and would have been looked at by any contending team in need of a starting goalie if Utah had made him available. There were some rumors around the Edmonton Oilers being linked to him. However, now they will need to look elsewhere because Vejmelka is the goalie of the future for the Hockey Club.
So far this season, he has a record of 16-16-4 with a .910 SV% and a 2.45 GAA, which is very good. He also stepped up and held down the crease when Connor Ingram dealt with personal issues this season.
All these signings by Utah's GM Bill Armstrong make for a very interesting next 48 hours.
