Since the 2025 NHL Draft, there have been rumblings that the Columbus Blue Jackets could be shopping Dmitri Voronkov. The speculation began when Noah Dobson was traded to the Montreal Canadiens just hours before the draft started. It was believed Voronkov was part of those discussions.

Now, a month later, David Pagnotta of The Fourth Period is reporting in his 2025 Summer Trade Watch List that Voronkov could still be available.

Pagnotta said: "The Blue Jackets were willing to move Voronkov in a deal for Noah Dobson, but that clearly didn’t happen, as Dobson was dealt to Montreal. Columbus wants to add an impact player and could continue to dangle Voronkov in a deal for a big piece."

At the moment, the New York Islanders and Buffalo Sabres are the only two teams publicly linked to him. However, the Utah Mammoth could be a team that swoops in and makes a push to acquire him.

As Pagnotta noted, "Columbus wants to add an impact player and could continue to dangle Voronkov in a deal for a big piece." If that’s the case, the Mammoth might consider offering Nick Schmaltz or even Barrett Hayton in return, although, Hayton would be less likely.

Schmaltz is on an expiring contract and could provide the Blue Jackets with a reliable forward who can play both center and wing. Of course, Columbus may be unwilling to make that deal. But if they decide to move Voronkov, even as late as the 2026 NHL Trade Deadline, the Mammoth could be ready to part with someone like Schmaltz to try and get it done.
