Late last night, the Utah Mammoth announced that they have signed forward Jack McBain to a five-year, $21.25 million contract. The deal carries an average annual value of $4.25 million, which is around $1.25 million over his projected cap hit.

Utah's general manager Bill Armstrong spoke about the importance of signing McBain.

"We are very pleased to sign Jack to a new contract,” said Bill Armstrong, general manager of the Utah Mammoth. “He is a big, strong, physical player who competes hard on a nightly basis and brings a gritty toughness to our group. Jack is an important part of the championship-caliber team we are building, and we look forward to having him back on our roster for the foreseeable future.”

McBain, 25, had 13 goals and 14 assists for 27 points in 82 games for Utah last season. In his four-year career, he has scored 35 goals and 47 assists for 82 points in 241 games. Since he played his first game back in 2021-22 with the Arizona Coyotes, he ranks third in the NHL with the most hits thrown, with 832.

Now that this signing is official, the Mammoth have $6.6 million in projected cap space and have signed all their players on expiring contracts. With the $6.6 million available to spend, Utah could continue to be active on the trade front, or potentially sign another free agent to shore up whatever else they feel they need to compete this team ahead of the 2025-26 NHL season.
