The Utah Mammoth have announced that they’ve signed defenseman Nick DeSimone to a one-year, $800,000 contract.
DeSimone, 30, was a pending unrestricted free agent and will now stay put in Utah—where he wanted to be. He joined the organization on Jan. 5 after being claimed off waivers from the New Jersey Devils.
GM Bill Armstrong released a statement on the signing of DeSimone:
“We are very pleased to have Nick return to the Mammoth,” said Armstrong. “Nick adds a veteran presence to our blue line and is a good role model for our young team. He skates well, competes hard, and moves the puck effectively. We are excited to have him on our roster.”
In 20 games this season, he had one goal and five assists for six points with the club. In 58 NHL games across his career, he’s recorded three goals, 10 assists for 13 points and six PIM, playing for the Mammoth, Devils, and Calgary Flames.
DeSimone has also logged 353 games in the AHL with the Utica Comets, Calgary Wranglers, Stockton Heat, Rochester Americans, and San Jose Barracuda. In those games, he’s posted 38 goals, 141 assists for 179 points, and 133 PIM.
Depending on the moves Utah makes this summer, DeSimone could be in line for a spot on the third pair. If not, he’ll likely serve as the team’s seventh defenseman. Either way, having a steady veteran like him in the mix gives the Mammoth flexibility heading into 2025-26.
