After almost four long months, Vancouver Canucks hockey is officially back. Tonight, the top prospects for the Canucks and the Edmonton Oilers will battle it out at the South Okanagan Events Centre as part of the 2024 Young Stars Classic. Game time is set for 7:30 pm PT and can be viewed on Canucks.com.

Heading into this game, one of the biggest storylines to keep an eye on how much chemistry Vancouver's top line has. The trio of Arshdeep Bains, Aatu Räty and Jonathan Lekkerimäki could easily form the top line for the Abbotsford Canucks this season, while all three also being candidates for call-ups to the NHL. While success in one game won't guarantee production in the AHL, these tournaments are all about building chemistry and showing where a player is at from a development perspective compared to others in their age group.

For defence, all eyes will be on Elias Pettersson and Kirill Kudryavtsev, who are set to make up the Canucks top pair. Both are physical left-shot defenders who will be competing for an everyday spot in Abbotsford's lineup. As mentioned, one strong game doesn't guarantee a lineup spot at the AHL level, but it does go a long way in helping build a case as to why a player deserves opportunities this season.
