The mystery surrounding why Vancouver Canucks prospect Cole McWard was not included on the 2024 Young Stars Classic roster has finally been revealed. As reported by Ben Kuzma of "The Province," McWard is dealing with a minor nagging injury that will keep him out of the tournament. Kuzma also noted that Jett Woo will not be participating, but that is because the 24-year-old defenceman received "a promotion straight to main camp next week."
The 2024-25 campaign will be massive for McWard, who is looking to add to his six games of NHL experience. He is projected to be a top-four defenceman for the Abbotsford Canucks and will be a name to watch when call-ups are needed during the season. At last year's Young Stars Classic, McWard was a standout for the Canucks, finishing the event with four points in three games.

Sunday, September 15: Vancouver vs Winnipeg at 2:00 pm PT
