As for the heatmap, Vancouver struggled to box out in front of the net. Tampa Bay was winning almost every battle in front of Artūrs Šilovs, which included the 3-0 goal, which was a tap-in from inside the crease by Anthony Cirelli. Ultimately, this game came down to lost battles and bad positioning, which has been a problem for the Canucks since the start of the season.

The star of this game, from an analytics perspective, was easily Conor Garland, who also scored Vancouver's only goal. Garland led all forward with 15:04 of ice time while finishing with a team-high four individual high-danger chances created. While on the ice, the Canucks held a 9-4 shots advantage while also winning the scoring chances battle 11-4. Not only was Garland a standout in this game, but he has been one of Vancouver's best players overall through the first three games of the year.

Lastly, the Canucks penalty kill deserves a lot of credit for their performance. Vancouver went five for five while shorthanded, allowing just three shots and zero high-danger chances. Now ten for 12 on the season, the penalty kill played a major part in keeping this game close until the end.
