A look at some of the analytics from the Vancouver Canucks 2-1 victory over the Toronto Maple Leafs.

Welcome to this edition of the Vancouver Canucks post-game analytics report. This recurring deep dive breaks down the analytics behind each Canucks game as recorded by Natural Stat Trick. In this article, we look back on Vancouver's most recent 2-1 victory over the Toronto Maple Leafs.

The Canucks put together an impressive performance from an analytics perspective. They won the even-strength, scoring chances battle 28-21 while also producing 11 even-strength high-danger scoring chances compared to the Maple Leafs five. In the end, Vancouver was able to frustrate Toronto while also putting an end to the Maple Leafs' three-game win streak.

As for the heatmap, it demonstrates just how efficient the Canucks were defensively. While the Maple Leafs did create some chances, Vancouver was able to keep bodies away from both Thatcher Demko and Kevin Lankinen, forcing Toronto to shoot from distance. The Canucks also did a good job creating havoc in front of Joseph Woll, as they weren't afraid to crash the net and dig for rebounds.

While all four forward lines stood out, one that deserves a shoutout is the trio of Kiefer Sherwood, Elias Pettersson and Jake DeBrusk. Despite drawing the matchup against Austin Matthews, Vancouver's top line had a 7-3 shots advantage and produced the first goal of the game over their 13:06 of ice time. If this trio can replicate Saturday's performance throughout the rest of the season, the Canucks should have no problem moving up the standings.

Lastly, it was another strong night for the pairing of Marcus Pettersson and Tyler Myers. The duo logged 18:58 together at even strength and finished the night with an xGF% of 80.23. Despite only spending a week together, Pettersson and Myers are developing into a strong duo that will play a critical role once the team returns from the 4 Nations Face-Off break.
