The analytics show that this was a game the Canucks should have won. They won the even-strength scoring chances battle 25-7 and held a 14-5 even-strength high-danger scoring chances advantage. Ultimately, though, they were unable to beat Casey DeSmith more than once, which resulted in a loss.

As for the heatmap, it is frustrating to look at, as Vancouver did a good job of crashing the net. The Canucks generated ten high-danger shots, but again, they just couldn't beat their former goaltender. If Vancouver does end up missing the postseason, this loss could come back to haunt them, as they were the better team on Sunday.

Looking at the forward lines, one of the Canucks best was the trio of Dakota Joshua, Teddy Blueger and Conor Garland. While they only played 3:52 together, they outshot the opposition 4-2 and held a 5-0 high-danger scoring chances advantage. This line continues to impress and was one of the trios Rick Tocchet leaned on in the third period.

Lastly, defenceman Elias Pettersson had an impressive night. During his 16:43 of even-strength ice time, the Canucks held a 6-1 shots advantage while "Junior" finished with an xGF% of 61.84. Overall, the results through his first 13 games have been positive, as Pettersson looks like ready to become a full-time NHLer.
