A look at some of the analytics from the Canucks 4-0 loss to the Boston Bruins.

Welcome to this edition of "The Stats Behind The Game." This recurring deep dive breaks down the analytics behind each Vancouver Canucks game as recorded by Natural Stat Trick. In this article, we look back on the Canucks most recent 4-0 loss to the Boston Bruins.

While the analytics were close, this was one of Vancouver's worst games of the year. Not only did they lose the even-strength high-danger chances battle 10-9, but the Bruins led 2-0 in high-danger chances created while the Canucks were on the power play. Outside of xGF%, Boston led in every analytical category as they snapped Vancouver's point streak at 12.

The heatmap also illustrates just how lopsided this game was. While the Canucks were able to generate chances from just outside the crease, the Bruins did a much better job, with three of their four goals coming within ten feet of the net. Overall, Vancouver did not do a good enough job protecting the front of the net while also not getting back fast enough to prevent breakaways leading to goals.

Lastly, the only real positive from this game was the play of Dakota Joshua, Teddy Blueger and Conor Garland. In 10:25 of ice time together, they had a 5-2 advantage in high-danger chances and finished with an xGF% of 76.60. The trio continues to be a consistent positive for this Canucks team as they show why they are the best third line in the NHL.
