In a shocking development, Vancouver Canucks goaltender Artūrs Šilovs is no longer listed on Latvia's 2026 Olympic Qualifying roster. Šilovs was listed on the initial roster back on August 16 but is now absent from the team. Latvia is scheduled to kick off their Olympic Qualifier on August 29 in Riga and will face France, Slovenia and Ukraine for a spot at the 2026 Winter Olympics.

The omission is surprising as Šilovs was projected to be Latvia's starting goaltender at the tournament. He famously led them to a Bronze Medal at the World Championship in 2023, where he also picked up MVP honours at the tournament. Šilovs was also part of Latvia's Olympic Qualifying roster in 2021, but did not see any action during that tournament.

Šilovs is not the only Canucks player missing from Latvia's roster as Teddy Blueger will not participate. Blueger's absence was already known as the Latvia Hockey Federation announced he would miss the tournament due to "personal reasons". Blueger was Latvia's captain back in 2021, recording four points and helping Latvia qualify for the 2022 Winter Olympics.
