The Abbotsford Canucks have found their new Goaltending Coach. A week after Marko Torenius was promoted to Vancouver Canucks Goaltending Coach, GM Ryan Johnson announced the hiring of Justin Pogge, who spent last season as Goaltending Consultant for the Columbus Blue Jackets. On top of his work with Columbus, Pogge spent significant time working with Team Canada, including as Goaltender Coach of their Gold Medal-winning Hlinka Gretzky Cup team.

In a statement, Johnson wrote, "First of all, I’d like to congratulate Marko Torenius on his well-deserved promotion to Vancouver. We thank him for his work and dedication to our team in Abbotsford over the past two seasons. With that being said, I am very excited to have Justin Pogge join our team as Goaltending Coach. He brings a plethora of experience as a player at the NHL, AHL, international and European professional levels and I’m looking forward to seeing him help develop our goaltenders in Abbotsford."

Pogge brings plenty of experience to the Canucks organization. After a successful WHL career, where he won CHL Goaltender of the Year in 2006, he played over 250 games at the AHL level. Pogge also has seven games of experience in the NHL, all with the Toronto Maple Leafs and over 100 games in the SHL. Now 38, Pogge retired in 2023, with his last season being played in the DEL with Grizzlys Wolfsburg.

Based on Abbosford's current roster, Pogge will be working primarily with Jiří Patera, Nikita Tolopilo and Jonathan Lemieux. The Canucks are looking to improve after a 40-25-5-2 season, which includes making it past the second round for the first time in franchise history. With plenty of experience on the coaching side, including new head coach Manny Malhotra, Abbotsford should be able not just to have a good season but also continue to develop Vancouver's top prospects.
