The Vancouver Canucks 2024 seventh-round pick is headed to the Rimouski Océanic.
The Lausanne Hockey Club announced that Vancouver Canucks prospect Basile Sansonnens has been loaned to the Rimouski Océanic for the upcoming season. As noted in the press release, Sansonnens is currently under contract in the NL until 2027-28 and is set to return to Lausanne at the end of the season. After being selected in the 2024 NHL Draft by Vancouver 221st overall, Sansonnens was selected by Rimouski 31st overall in the 2024 CHL Import Draft, making him eligible to play in the CHL.
Sansonnens move to the Océanic is significant as it means he will play in the 2025 Memorial Cup. This will be Rimouski's second time hosting the Memorial Cup, with the previous occasion coming in 2009 when they hosted and won the historic tournament. Sansonnens is one of six NHL-drafted players on the roster and is expected to play a significant role for the team this season.
Last season, Sansonnens played the majority of his season with Gottéron U20 of the U20-Elit. In 40 games, he had three points, along with 35 penalty minutes. Sansonnens also played for Team Switzerland at the 2024 U18s, averaging over 18 minutes in five games.
