Aatu Räty has cleared waivers.

The Vancouver Canucks will not be losing Aatu Räty on waivers for free. The 23-year-old center cleared waivers on Thursday and will be assigned to the Abbotsford Canucks. With Räty clearing waivers, the Canucks now have room to activate Filip Chytil from IR.

Räty has struggled to get into the lineup this season. In four games, he has one goal and is averaging 10:10 of ice time. Despite his limited games, Räty is still near the top of the league in faceoff percentage, as he has won 56.8% of his 44 draws.

The question now with Räty is what happens next. As Patrick Johnson of Postmedia reported, Vancouver has been trying to trade the center but hasn't found a deal. Despite his age matching the rebuild, it appears that his future may not be with the Canucks.

If he is not dealt, Räty's first game with Abbotsford could come as early as Saturday night. The AHL Canucks kick off their 2026-27 home schedule on October 17 against the Coachella Valley Firebirds. So far this year, Abbotsford is 1-2-0-1 and has a -4 goal differential.
