The Vancouver Canucks have yet to play in their first game after the 2026 Winter Olympics, and yet, the injury bug continues to hit them. On Wednesday, Filip Chytil left the team's practice early after taking a puck to the head during a mini-game, resulting in the forward requiring X-rays. Today, Canucks Head Coach Adam Foote gave a little extra clarity to Chytil's injury.
"He'a got a fracture," Foote said after Vancouver's practice today. "I think it went off one of our defencemen's skates and skipped up. Really, that's some bad luck for him, and it doesn't look like surgical, but they're seeing another specialist, so we'll cross our fingers and hope it's not."
Foote was unable to provide a timeline on Chytil's injury as the forward still has to be seen by one more specialist before the team has a better idea of the severity of his fracture.
This will be Chytil's third injury absence of the season, though in his first, he'd remained out of the lineup for over three months. Chytil had made his first return on January 23 and played in six games before departing mid-game on February 2. He stayed out through the Olympic break and returned to practice in a non-contact jersey on February 17.
Vancouver resumes the 2025-26 season on February 25 against the Winnipeg Jets, with puck drop slated for 7:00 pm PT.
