Kiefer Sherwood is the only player in the NHL to record double-digit hits in a game this season.

During the Vancouver Canucks 6-3 victory over the Chicago Blackhawks, Kiefer Sherwood tied the franchise record for hits in a game with 12. The record which he tied is held by Luke Schenn, who achieved the feat three times, including once against the Blackhawks. Sherwood also set the franchise record for hits by forward in a game, surpassing Tyler Motte, who threw 11 in 2019. 

Sherwood has proved to be a significant signing for the Canucks this season. He is the only player in the league who has thrown 10+ hits in a game this year and has already done it twice. Sherwood currently leads the NHL in hits with 44 and is in position to challenge for the all-time single-season record of 383 set by Jeremy Lauzon in 2023-24.

Through the first six games, Sherwood is averaging 7.33 hits per game. If he kept up the same average over an 82-game season, that would equal out to 601.06 hits. While Sherwood is not afraid to throw hits, it seems unlikely he will hit the 600 mark, but as mentioned, he could be close to setting the single-season record this year. 

Signed from the Nashville Predators on July 1, Sherwood has always been a physical player. He surpassed the 230-hit mark last season and has 536 in 193 regular season games. Sherwood was also a massive pain to play against for Vancouver in the 2024 Stanley Cup Playoffs, recording 33 hits during their six-game first-round series.
