Jack Thompson was injured before training camp began.
The Vancouver Canucks have placed defenceman Jack Thompson on waivers. If cleared, the 24-year-old is expected to be assigned to the Abbotsford Canucks. Thompson started the campaign with an injury after he took a puck to the face before the team headed to Penticton for Training Camp.
If Thompson clears waivers, he should provide the AHL Canucks with a significant boost on the blue line. Last season, he was traded from the San Jose Sharks to Vancouver for Jett Woo. In 14 games with Abbotsford, Thompson scored three goals while recording 13 points in 14 games.
This past off-season, the Canucks signed Thompson to a one-year extension worth $850,000. In 217 career regular-season AHL games, the right-shot defenceman has scored 23 goals and recorded 104 points. Thompson has played 34 NHL games, where he has recorded 10 points.
