Bidding 2024 farewell with three Canucks prospect performances from the 2025 World Juniors.

T’was the night before New Years Day, and all throughout Ottawa, Vancouver Canucks prospects were playing in hopes of making the next round of the 2025 World Juniors. All three made the quarterfinals, with Switzerland and Sweden claiming their spots with a win tonight. Canada finished third in group A after a loss to USA. Here's how each prospect and their team fared in tonight's matchups.

    Basile Sansonnens - Team Switzerland

Basile Sansonnens and Team Switzerland punched their ticket to the quarterfinals on Tuesday morning, defeating Kazakhstan 3–1 in order to do so. Switzerland cornered Kazakhstan with 35 shots on goal, putting up one goal every period to take their first win of the tournament. Sansonnens played 12:32 of the game, the least in the past three games he has played in. Funnily enough, he played 15:33 in both games against Czechia and Slovakia.

    Sawyer Mynio - Team Canada

In a rivalry that has stood the test of time, Sawyer Mynio and Team Canada took on Team USA on New Year’s Eve. This was Mynio’s second game of the tournament. While he didn’t register a point, he was on the ice for 13:50 of the game and played on the third pairing. Canada couldn’t seem to keep themselves out of the box. The team took 11 penalties, one of which was a cross-check committed by Mynio after Canada tied the game at one. Despite losing, Canada’s roster launched 39 shots at USA goaltender Trey Augustine.
