The Canucks have sent forward Braeden Cootes down to the AHL.
After a strong 2026 pre-season effort, the Vancouver Canucks have re-assigned star prospect Braeden Cootes to the Abbotsford Canucks in the AHL. Cootes was one of the final players left in line to potentially take a spot in Vancouver's opening-night lineup.
Prior to being re-assigned, Cootes had played in all three pre-season games for the Canucks, scoring a goal and two assists in that span. He spent the first two pre-season games on Vancouver's top-line, finding success on a line with forward Arshdeep Bains. In his final pre-season game, Thursday night's 2-1 loss to the Edmonton Oilers, he centred the team's fourth-line with Paul Cotter and Brendan Gallagher on his wings.
Cootes will now join an Abbotsford squad that features fellow Canucks prospects Ty Mueller, Vilmer Alriksson, Sawyer Mynio, and more. He will likely slot into Abbotsford's top-six, potentially even on their first-line.
