The Vancouver Canucks have added to their organizational depth by signing forward Akil Thomas to a one-year, two-way contract.

A former second-round pick made by the Los Angeles Kings in the 2018 NHL Entry Draft, Thomas most recently played with the Springfield Thunderbirds, having been traded to the St. Louis Blues for Nikita Alexandrov in December of 2025. In his time with Springfield, Thomas scored five goals and four assists in 20 games played.

Prior to this trade, Thomas spent nearly seven years with the Kings organization. He set a career-high in AHL points with 46 during the 2023-24 season, scoring 22 goals and 24 assists in 64 games.

After four seasons with the Ontario Reign of the AHL, the forward made his NHL debut on April 1, 2024 against the Winnipeg Jets, scoring his first career NHL goal the game after on April 4 against the San Jose Sharks. He registered a grand total of four goals and three assists in 32 NHL games with Los Angeles through the 2023-24 and 2024-25 seasons.

Notably, Thomas spent his entire time as a member of the Reign under new Abbotsford Canucks General Manager Richard Seeley, who was Ontario's GM at the time.
