The Dallas Stars made a surprising decision on Friday, as they fired Head Coach Peter DeBoer. The 56-year-old had spent the last three years in Dallas, posting a 149-68-29 record and guiding the Stars to three straight Western Conference Finals. Despite the success, Dallas elected to go in a different direction, meaning their search for a new head coach is officially on.

Vancouver Canucks Announce Assistant Coaches For The 2025-26 Season
The Stars are in an interesting situation, as many coaches who could fill the role have already signed with new teams. That being said, there are still plenty of intriguing options available to fill the bench boss role in Dallas. One name to keep an eye on is Abbotsford Canucks Head Coach Manny Malhotra, who could be interviewed in the near future for the position.
Malhotra is a rising star in the coaching world. After spending seven seasons as an assistant with both the Vancouver Canucks and the Toronto Maple Leafs, the 45-year-old took over as head coach of Abbotsford this season. Under his watchful eye, Malhotra helped establish new franchise records for wins, goals as well as points, while also guiding the Canucks to the Western Conference Final.
Luckily for the Stars, they have a front row seat to watch Malhotra's coaching style in action as Abbotsford is taking on Texas in the Western Conference Final. Thanks to Malhotra's coaching style, the Canucks hold a 3-1 series lead, and have the chance to advance to the Calder Cup Final with a win on Friday. Ultimately, almost every decision Malhotra has made this post-season has paid off, which includes some game-to-game lineup changes in this series.
Even if the Stars decide to pass on Malhotra, it is hard to imagine that he will be in the AHL for long. He has a strong track record as an assistant in the NHL and is now showing that he can lead a team on a long playoff run. In the end, fans in Vancouver should not be surprised if Malhotra is behind an NHL bench again soon, but this time as a head coach.
