The Vancouver Canucks coaching staff will look a lot different in 2025-26. Adam Foote will be taking over as Head Coach, while Kevin Dean, Brett McLean and Scott Young will all serve as assistants. There will also be some members of the coaching staff who will be returning next season, including Daniel and Henrik Sedin, who will be continuing in their roles as development coaches.

Over the past three seasons, the Sedins have served as development coaches for the organization. This includes working with the Abbotsford Canucks, as well as the NHL club. Ultimately, they go wherever is needed, and as they were during their playing days, they have become key members of the Canucks coaching staff.

While the Sedins' title has not changed, it is clear that Foote plans to utilize the Hockey Hall of Famers next season. On top of working with Young on what Vancouver's new head coach calls "Special Projects", he envisions the Sedins holding mini practice sessions before the entire group hits the ice. Based on Foote's answer during his media availability on Thursday, he is looking forward to working with the Sedins this season as they have plenty of knowledge to pass on to the players.

"Well, that's up to them, said Foote. "You know, their development roles, but they're guys that are there for you, whatever you want them to do. As their kids get older and move on, they're gonna have decisions to make. Whether they'll be sticking around Vancouver or moving on. Their roles, we'll discuss with them. I see them, and we have talked about more before practice. Like maybe taking three or four guys out, about a 3-on-3 play offensively. Four-on-four. Obviously, some individual skill with some young guys or special projects, we'll have them doing. They're the type of guys that are there to work and go to battle with them. They're open to anything. I would like to maybe do more of a schedule with them. We're going to utilize them and take everything we get from them. They're great hockey minds, and they'll help us a lot."

If utilized properly, the Sedins should be able to provide plenty of value as members of the coaching staff. They understand how the Canucks, as an organization, are run, and have over two decades of experience playing and working in the Vancouver market. In the end, based on Foote's answer, it is clear that he is going to lean on Daniel and Henrik throughout the 2025-26 season.
