Tonight’s matchup against the Winnipeg Jets and the Vancouver Canucks marks the 35th annual Canucks For Kids Fund Telethon. The telethon is a donation initiative put on by the Canucks organization, with proceeds benefitting the team’s charity affiliates such as the Canucks Autism Network, Canuck Place Children’s Hospice, and the BC Children’s Hospital Foundation.

During tonight's game broadcast itself, stories will run throughout breaks in play informing audiences of community members who have ties to these charities. For those who will be in attendance, donations will be accepted at sections 108, 111, 113, 121, 316, 329, and at guest services. Those who contribute $100 or more will be given special prizes such as photos of Canucks Head Coach Rick Tocchet and Canucks team pup Eddie

“The short time I’ve been here, charity events I’ve been to, the money that people donate is incredible in this city,” Tocchet said of tonight’s fundraiser.

Vancouver’s Head Coach also touched on how “incredible” last year’s donation number of $800,000 was. To put it into perspective, the funds raised last year more than doubled the amount the team made the year before, which was $390,000. In total, the team raised over $12.5M for charities last year, and over $100M in a 39-year span.

“Over all the years, anytime we have this game it means a lot to the whole community and the organization. It’s always a big success,” Brock Boeser added of the event’s significance to the team. “It’s obviously an important night.”

A consistent presence in the event is Toyota, who has been providing a winnable car every year since 2023. This year, those who donate before midnight tonight will be eligible to win a 2025 Corolla Hatchback CVT SE. Another familiar element to tonight’s game will be Canucks legend Stan Smyl putting his apron back on to help serve hotdogs at Steamers, the concession stand named after him at Rogers Arena, from 6:30 pm to 7:00 pm.

The outreach this fundraiser has is more than just Vancouver, as many know Sportsnet reporter Elliotte Friedman’s ties to the event. He co-hosted the CFKF Telethon night in 2022, 2023, and 2024. While he isn’t expected to make it to the game tonight due to work reasons, which he said is “incredibly disappointing” for him, he still expressed his support for the cause.

“One of my favourite days on the calendar, the Canucks For Kids Fund Telethon,” Friedman said today in a video released by the Canucks. “I love being a part of it and I’m honoured that the Canucks ask me to come be part of it every year.

“Over the years I have been blown away — I’m not surprised — because I understand now the generosity, the passion, and the caring of the Canucks organization. More importantly, the Canucks fanbase, to make sure these people get the help that they need. I’m not surprised any more by what they do and what you do. I know tonight will be a hugely successful night. I just want to say, I’ve heard enough over the years to know that all of you who are donating, all of you who are helping, no matter the amount, every amount helps. You have no idea how much help, peace, and calmness you are bringing to the people of your community who really need it.”

Despite not being in attendance, Friedman expressed his pride in the Canucks fanbase as well as his certainty that they would continue their generosity. “I know this will be a great night, I look forward to coming back next year, and once again, I look forward to being reminded of the incredible generosity of Canucks nation, and I know that once again, you will step up and give help to people who need it, and I can’t tell you how much they are going to appreciate it.”
