On June 1, the Vancouver Canucks will lose the rights to forward prospect Lucas Forsell. While the organization and the player still have over a week to come to an agreement, Forsell has confirmed that he will not be signing an entry-level contract and instead will continue his career in the SHL. A seventh-round pick in 2021, Forsell is currently playing for Färjestad BK, where he had nine points in 46 games last season.

While speaking to nwt.se, Forsell detailed why he would not be signing with the Canucks. Using Google Translate and the website hockeysverige.se, Forsell said, "I have spoken to my American agent. It didn't come as a shock, and it's not something I'm disappointed about. I will stay here in Färjestad. I haven't really focused on anything over there, but if it comes up, I want to feel like I have the confidence to actually take on a role. I don't want to go over "just because."

Forsell has spent almost his entire career with Färjestad BK's organization. The 21-year-old has played 158 games at the SHL level, recording 23 goals and 35 points. Forsell has also participated in three Champions Hockey League seasons, recording 11 points in 29 games.
