On this day 30 years ago, Wayne Gretzky passed Gordie Howe for the most goals by any player in NHL history in a game against the Vancouver Canucks.

The Great One scored on a Los Angeles Kings powerplay 14:47 into the second period for goal 802.

Gretzky and Canucks head coach Rick Tocchet are good friends and have coached together with the Arizona Coyotes and were behind the bench at the 2024 NHL All-Star game.

The game was stopped once he scored the goal and had a 15-minute standing ovation.

The Canucks will go down in infomany as the team that gave up Gretzky's record-breaking goal. Washington Capitals forward Alex Ovechkin isn't far behind from breaking the record.
