The Vancouver Canucks have made a trade at the 2026 NHL Entry Draft.
The first trade of the Ryan Johnson era has officially been made. The deal saw the Vancouver Canucks send pick number 161 in 2026 to the Toronto Maple Leafs. In exchange, Vancouver will receive a 2027 fifth-round pick that originally belonged to the Ottawa Senators.
With the 161st pick, Toronto selected defenceman Yaroslav Fedoseyev. Listed at 6'1", 187 lbs, the 18-year-old played in Russia last year. With the move, the Canucks are projected to finish the 2026 draft with nine selections.
While the trade is not massive, it is a smart deal for Johnson. Vancouver not only adds to its 2027 pick collection but also moves up a round from the 161st pick. Even if Ottawa wins the Stanley Cup, the latest the Canucks new pick can be is 160th overall.
