

Sawyer Mynio is on his way to the AHL. The Vancouver Canucks prospect was assigned to the Abbotsford Canucks on Monday, ahead of their second-round series against the Coachella Valley Firebirds. Mynio recently wrapped up his WHL season, where he helped the Calgary Hitmen advance to the second round.

Initially drafted 89th overall in 2023, Mynio recorded 45 points in 49 regular-season games split between Calgary and the Seattle Thunderbirds. The left-shot defenceman added six points in 11 games during the post-season, while also recording 24 shots on goal. During the season, Mynio had the opportunity to play for Team Canada at the 2025 World Juniors, recording one assist in three games.
Mynio has already played an AHL game in his career. The 19-year-old was called up late last season and made his AHL debut on April 11, 2024, against the Calgary Wranglers. Mynio was also part of the Canucks 2024 Calder Cup Playoffs roster, but did not play a game.
Abbotsford kicks off its second-round series on May 1 against Coachella Valley. The Firebirds will host the first two games of the five-game series, while the final three will be held at the Abbotsford Centre. Game 1 from the Acrisure Arena is scheduled for 7:00 pm PT and can be viewed on AHLTV.
