Bob Frid-Imagn Images - "The Players Have Raised The Standard": Canucks' Patrik Allvin Says His Expectations Are Higher

Vancouver Canucks GM Patrik Allvin met with members of the media yesterday to discuss the state of the team.

After last season's Pacific Division crown and second-round exit, Allvin understands the players standard for success is higher.

"I think the players have raised the standard," Allvin said. "They have done that. My expectation is always higher on the individuals."

Even with some significant injuries to start the season to Thatcher Demko and Dakota Joshua, the Canucks opening night roster is expected to perform to Stanley Cup contending potential.

"When they respond to great sustainment of practice habits and details and how they prepare themselves, it's something that lives for the whole organization, and nothing's going to change for us," Allvin said. "We have a lot of things to prove every day, and the mindset we created last year, that the next game mentality, is how we want to continue to build this. We just need to find a way to get better."

Expectations are high for the Vancouver Canucks franchise, but that looks like it has fueled a desire for more sustained success.

"We know it's going to be harder. It's never going to be any easier," Allvin said. "We got to learn, and we have to continue to push forward."

The Canucks open their season against the Calgary Flames tomorrow.
