In terms of penalty minutes, the Canucks are the seventh-most penalized team in the NHL with 643. The Buffalo Sabres sit at the top of the league with 725 PIM, while the Vegas Golden Knights have the least with 379. Individually speaking, former Canuck and current member of the Boston Bruins, Nikita Zadorov, leads the league in total penalties taken (44) and PIM (133). Only a couple of penalties behind him is Ottawa Senators captain Brady Tkachuk with 42 penalties taken.
Vancouver’s top penalty taker, Tyler Myers, is tied with Washington Capitals forward Tom Wilson for 11th in the NHL with 28 penalties. He is 25th in the league in PIMs with 64 on the season, a stat that ties him with Barclay Goodrow of the San Jose Sharks. As well, he leads his team in minors taken (26) and is tied for first in majors taken (2).
The rest of the team’s top-five PIM leaders are mostly defensemen, though Conor Garland takes second place behind Myers with 50 minutes. After him are Derek Forbort and Filip Hronek with 36, and Kiefer Sherwood with 31. Nils Höglander sits just outside the top-five with 30 penalty minutes on the season, while Quinn Hughes finishes behind him with 27. Of those who have played at least 20 games with the Canucks this season, Max Sasson finishes with the least penalty minutes with none. One other thing to note is Pius Suter’s 10 penalty minutes on the season, the lowest of Canucks who have played more than 60 games.
Total penalty counts are pretty similar in terms of which Canucks finish in the top-five. After Myers are Garland (18) and Forbort (15), as well as Hronek, Sherwood, and Höglander who are all tied with 14. Hughes has taken a total of eight penalties so far this season, while Brock Boeser and Elias Pettersson have each taken seven. Sasson, Linus Karlsson, Arshdeep Bains, and Guillaume Brisebois are the only players to have played at least one game for the Canucks and not registered a single penalty.
Four current Canucks have been assessed two major penalties throughout the season — Myers, Garland, Forbort, and Dakota Joshua. Sherwood, Teddy Blueger, Hughes, and Noah Juulsen have each tallied one. Three current Canucks have been given game misconducts, while the team has been given six total when counting players who have since been moved. Players who have been assessed game misconducts are Garland, Hughes, and Hronek, as well as former Canucks Danton Heinen, Carson Soucy, and Mark Friedman.
Only three current Canucks have yet to draw a penalty this season, with those players being Bains, Brisebois, and Nils Åman. Garland has drawn the most this season with 28, while Pettersson has drawn the second-most with 22. After them are Höglander (18), Hughes (16), and Sherwood (14). Forbort has drawn the second-most penalties of all Canucks defensemen with 12 on the season.
