What The Biggest Western Conference Trade Deadline Moves Mean For The Vancouver Canucks: Part 2

Vancouver’s first game of the week took place on Wednesday. They won 3–2 in a spirited effort against the Anaheim Ducks, in which the Canucks scored three straight goals in the second period. Carson Soucy scored his final goal as a Canuck, as he was soon traded to the New York Rangers the day after. Vancouver put up an impressive 36 shots, and Elias Pettersson won 20 of the 25 faceoffs he took throughout the game.

On Trade Deadline day, the Canucks hosted the Minnesota Wild at Rogers Arena. Despite not making any trades on the day of the deadline, the Canucks were able to pull through with the win. Kevin Lankinen made 37 saves, only letting in a single Wild goal. Pettersson scored his 12th goal of the season — a rocket one timer on the power play that was reminiscent of earlier years of his career. Vancouver ultimately took the win 3–1.

Vancouver looked to hop back into a playoff spot on Sunday night against a tired Dallas Stars team, but ultimately couldn’t keep up with their offense and dropped the game 4–1. Despite giving a solid defensive performance, killing all four penalties taken, and limiting the Stars to 19 shots, Vancouver was unable to come up with more offense than a goal by Derek Forbort. With this loss, the Canucks remain one point out of the playoffs.
