If Brock Boeser is forced to miss time with an injury, the Vancouver Canucks should call up top prospect Jonathan Lekkerimaki to fill in.
Boeser was forced out of last night's game with an injury after Los Angeles Kings forward Tanner Jeannot was ejected from the game for a high hit.
Jeannot is scheduled to have a meeting with the NHL Department of Player Safety today for supplemental discipline.
Boeser is one of the Canucks top contributors and will be a massive loss to the lineup if he is out for an extended period of time. If that's the case Lekkerimaki deserves to be called up after a strong start to his AHL season.
The winger has seven points in seven games, including five goals, which leads the team. He is tied for first in points on the team with Aatu Raty.
The 2022 first-round pick has displayed his elite shot and skating ability throughout each game for the Abbotsford Canucks. His style and development make him the perfect call up for Boeser because of where he can slot into the Canucks lineup.
Calling up prospects always becomes a balance of wanting them to play in the NHL but also not disrupting the top six forwards, especially on a contending team like Vancouver. Lekkerimaki would slot right into Boeser's spot with J.T. Miller and Jake DeBrusk.
The team is off today so there shouldn't be an update on Boeser's status, but monitoring the team transactions might give some insight into what the plan is.
