

For the second time in the 2025 IIHF World Championship, all four participating members of the Vancouver Canucks played on the same day. While some teams added to their point totals in the standings, some were dealt with their first losses of the tournament. Conor Garland, Logan O’Connor, and Team USA suffered their first loss of the tournament today. They lost 3–0 to Switzerland early in the morning (for those watching on the west coast), with none of Team USA’s players being able to register a goal despite putting a combined 23 shots on net. In the losing effort, Garland put two shots on goal in 15:05 minutes played. He also took a slashing penalty only a minute after Switzerland’s third goal of the game. O’Connor, on the other hand, played 11:18 of the game and skated alongside Mikey Eyssimont and Michael McCarron. This loss puts USA at fourth place in Group B with six points.
Marcus Pettersson and Team Sweden took on their international hockey rivals today, defeating Finland in a narrow 2–1 victory. Finland only managed 19 shots on net throughout the game compared to Sweden’s 41. Nashville Predators goaltender Juuse Saros held Finland in the game with 39 saves made. While Pettersson didn’t register a point today, he did have two shots on goal in 16:29 minutes played. With this win, Sweden remains atop Group A with nine points.

On the third day of the 2025 IIHF World Championship, it was <a href="https://thehockeynews.com/nhl/vancouver-canucks">Vancouver Canucks</a> forward Conor Garland who stole the show for Team USA. Filip Hronek continued his solid play for Czechia in today’s game, helping his team to an impressive 7–2 win against Denmark. Czechia scored four unanswered by the middle of the game to give themselves a commanding lead before Denmark was able to combat them with one goal. In this effort, Hronek had two assists and played 17:32 of the game, though he didn’t register any shots on goal. Czechia is currently first in Group B with eight points collected in their three games played.
