After suffering a 3–0 loss to Switzerland on Monday, Conor Garland, Drew O’Connor, and Team USA regained ground in the standings with a 6–5 overtime win against Norway on Wednesday. Despite the high shot differential of 39–18 in favour of the USA, they were lucky to snag a win as Norway erased a four-goal deficit in the back-half of the game in order to send this match to overtime. This win gives USA eight points in the tournament, putting them in third place in Group B. During this match, Garland had four shots on net in 19:46 minutes played — his highest total of the tournament. O’Connor had one assist on USA’s 4–1 goal, as well as one shot and 10:24 minutes played.
Sweden has proved just how much of a force they are in this year’s tournament, taking a commanding 6–0 win against Latvia to put themselves back at the top of Group A with 12 points. Pettersson did not register any points or shots today, but played in 20:08 of the team’s victory and was on the ice for two of his team’s goals. Sweden has been locked in a tight battle for first in Group A with Team Canada, the latter of which has played in one less game.
