The Vancouver Canucks announced Thursday that they had recalled defenceman Erik Brännström from the Abbotsford Canucks. The team also announced that defenceman Derek Forbort had left the team for personal reasons. Both announcements come just a few hours before the Canucks are set to take on the Florida Panthers for the first time this season.

As of writing, there is no information regarding how long Forbort will be out of the lineup. This is his first season with the organization, signing a one-year contract on July 1. In three games this season, Forbort has one assist and five blocked shots while averaging 16:53 of ice time.

Vancouver acquired Brännström from the Colorado Avalanche on Oct 6 for Tucker Poolman and a fourth-round pick. After clearing waivers, he was sent to the AHL, where he played twice for the Abbotsford Canucks, recording three assists. Initially drafted 15th overall in 2017 by the Vegas Golden Knights, Brännström is a left-shot defenceman who has experience playing on the right side.
