Vancouver Canucks defenseman Nikita Zadorov has been suspended two games by the NHL's Department of Player Safety for an illegal check to the head against the Detroit Red Wings Lucas Raymond.
Raymond was skating through the middle of the ice with the puck as Zadorov stepped up to hit him. Zadorov's right arm is at an awkward angle up high and catches Raymond's head.
A penalty was called right away as Raymond fell awkwardly to the ice.
Because today's game happened early this morning, DOPS initiated a hearing for Zadorov this evening. They also needed to have this meeting as soon as possible as the Canucks visit the Washington Capitals tomorrow at 10:30 a.m. PST.
Zadorov's second game that he will serve is against the Chicago Blackhawks on Tuesday. He is eligible to return against the Red Wings on Thursday.
