The Vancouver Canucks have announced that they are bringing future Hall of Fame forward Phil Kessel to Abbotsford to work out in the AHL.
Reports surfaced last week that there was mutual interest between the Canucks and Kessel.
Kessel has a history with Rick Tocchet and Jim Rutherford, which helped generate interest for both sides. Kessel hasn't played a game in a long time, as he was often a healthy scratch for the Vegas Golden Knights during their run to the Stanley Cup.
His last game was on April 24th, 2023, against the Winnipeg Jets in the first round of the playoffs.
His long layoff is likely the reason why the Canucks will have him skate with the AHL before throwing him into important NHL games. It also allows Kessel to keep his regular season iron-man streak alive.
